I feel like the new stuff can't quite capture it again. Coming at the hobby late, I can't help but feel like the whole 30k storyline "expansion" shrinks the setting too much.
I got pulled in by the algorithm on Quora easily 5 years back. I was using the site to figure out how to gamemaster for a DnD 5e campaign I was writing and kept getting warhammer content. Someone posted a novel excerpt sharing the story of Rylanor's Last Stand, and I finally admitted I was a fan of the setting. Since then its largely fan work that keeps me interested in it, whether painted models or short stories. I'm convinced warhammer fans have a better feel for what the setting is about than modern games workshop...
Last year, a youtube channel, Warrier Tier, did an audio play using the art out of the 1987 Rogue Trader. The style was right up my alley and I believe that style is what lives on through the hobbyists.
I haven't used Quora in ages, pretty sure it collapsed since, but I still look out for decent Warhammer 40k content, and am trying for get some 3d printable sculpts together for a Lamenters combat patrol.
This makes me want to bring out my 3rd edition codex, and build that Exodite army I always wished I could make, but never had the time/money/energy to build.
Be amazing if they did a new Exodite army - I'd be interested to see what the new plastics and 3D design could do now. But a great thread of lore to exlore!
I haven't played any GW games in decades. My main hobby is 3d printing and painting. So many creators have made some really good space elves on dinosaurs. Too bad I'm deep off in a Peninsular campaign project.
80's 40k had such an awesome vibe/aesthetic.

Out of interest that age/edition drew you in? As I think that makes a mark on your soul! (For me, 1987, so Rogue Trader)
